New Visual Politics Event Program

Our new Visual Politics Research Program is out now. Please come along either in person or online. As during the previous semester, I will be running events together with my colleague Dr Cormac Opdebeeck-Wilson.

Our first event will take place soon: on Wed 6 August 5-6pm: Prof Gillian Whitlock (UQ) and Dr Zhila Gholami (Griffith) are joining us in person to discuss archival work on migration and refugees.  We will focus on Whitlock’s new book Refugee Lives in the Archives (Bloomsbury 2024) and Gholami’s work in the UQ Fryer Collection.

Subsequent events include discussions of new books by A/Prof William Clapton (UNSW), A/Prof Simon Philpott (formerly Newcastle University), Dr Eliza Garnsey, Dr Caitlin Hamilton, and Prof Marguerite La Caze (UQ).  Topics range from popular culture and film to art and human rights.

On 4 December we will hold the First Annual Emma Hutchison Memorial Lecture.  It will be given by Prof Michael Barnett (George Washington University) on the topic of “Mobilising Compassion.”  The lecture will be followed by comments from Prof Bina D’Costa (ANU) and Dr Fiona Terry (formerly ICRC) and a reception allowing for informal interactions.

All welcome. The Emma Hutchison Memorial Lecture requires registration here, but for all other events just come along.  For a zoom link register here.

We look forward to seeing you soon

Roland and Cormac
