Prof Marshall Beier from McMaster University in Canada and A/Prof Helen Berents from Griffith University discuss their longstanding and highly successful research collaboration about images of childhood as technologies in the governance of political violence.

Both Marshall and Helen are prolific researchers who have produced multiple books including a recent co-edited one called Children, Childhoods and Global Politics (Bristol University Press, 2023).

The interview was conducted by Roland Bleiker and took place as part of a seminar held on 22 April 2026 in the context of a series of events organised by the Visual Politics Program at the University of Queensland.
