Dr Simon Philpott and A/Prof William Clapton discuss their pioneering work on popular culture and global politics. The discussion spans across a wide range of issues, including their changing experience of conducting research on popular culture over several decades, William’s new book Popular Culture, Social Media, and the Politics of Identity (Routledge 2024) and Simon’s ongoing project on local imaginaries and conflict transformation.

Simon was until recently Head of the Politics Department at the University of Newcastle (UK).  William is Associate Professor of International Relations and Associate Dean at the University of New South Wales.

The interview is conducted by Roland Bleiker and forms part of a series of events organised by the Visual Politics Program at the University of Queensland.
